  • Students are to respect all personal, private, and public property.
  • Students are to come to school on time, properly dressed and groomed, with all materials, and prepared to learn.

Office Hours

Students can go to the office if they need something during Recess and Lunch or if is an emergency they can ask a teacher for a pass. The office is not a place to hang out. Be respectful and wait your turn and then leave immediately when you have been helped or have been asked to leave.

 Tardies

Students are expected to be at school on time, prepared, and with supplies. A student is considered tardy when he/she arrives late to school. If you are late to a 1st period class it goes on your record and gets sent to the district. If you are late during the week in 2nd through 6th period there is 30 minute detention every Friday from 2:30-3:00. If the problem continues it could mean a meeting with the Principal or Vice Principal

 Leaving Campus Grounds

Students are not to leave campus for any reason without permission. If students needs to leave campus they must check out in the office and only persons named on their emergency cards with a valid I.D. may pick them up.

 Telephone

School telephones are not for student use unless authorized by school personnel. School personnel will determine if student use is deemed necessary.

Stolen, Lost, or Damaged Property

The School District and MIT are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. If you have something that you do not want to lose do not bring it to school

 School Materials

Textbooks and school library books are the property of the Redwood City School District and are loaned to pupils subject to the following conditions:

  • To be used only by the student to whom issued
  • To be returned when requested or at the time the students moves to another school.
  • If the book is damaged in excess of reasonable wear or is lost, the pupil must pay for replacement.

Students are responsible for all school materials issued to them, if they are lost, stolen, or damaged. The replacement cost will be charged to the parents.

Unacceptable Property

Cameras, laser lights, portable electronic devices, Ipods, Permanent markers (Sharpies), and other potentially disruptive devices and materials are not allowed at school. If these devices are discovered they will be confiscated and returned only to the parent or guardian. Skateboards are not permitted on the school grounds and bikes must be walked on campus and locked in the bike rack.

 Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones are a major problem on school campuses across the country. Ringing cell phones are disruptive during class time. Camera phones and text messaging are used to cheat on quizzes and tests. Phones are stolen, loaned to other students, may be lost or broken and have exacerbated crisis situations. The use of cellphones at school is detrimental to the academic climate because it takes valuable time away from instruction and creates disciplinary problems.

Due to the enormous time spent on stolen cell phones, the school will not be responsible for stolen cell phones. Their security is the sole responsibility of the student.

All cell phones must be turned off. They must not be visible. Students may not use their cell phones between during the school day. Using a cell phone as a clock or saying that it "fell out of my pocket" is not an excuse to have a cell phone out.

If a student is using a cell phone (ANY OF ITS FUNCTIONS) for any reason during this restricted time, the following consequences will be imposed:

  • Phone will be confiscated from the student
  • Progressive discipline will take place (warning, recess/after school detention, suspension)
  • The cell phone will be returned ONLY to the Parent/Guardian of the student. The student, sibling, neighbor or relative other than the parent/guardian, may not pick up the phone.

THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY

Students who have cell phones confiscated more than two times may be required to check the phone into the office daily.

We also ask you to keep in mind that the use of cell phones are not only disruptive in class, they are an inconvenience to teachers and staff that must stop what they are doing to correct the problem, label the phone and be responsible for its safe keeping. Confiscated phones will be labeled with the student's name and kept in the main office until the parent takes possession.

Cell-phones in the classrooms can only be used if the teacher gives direct instructions for their use.

MCKINLEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, STOLEN OR BROKEN CELL PHONES AND WILL NOT PAY FOR PHONES THAT ARE LOST, STOLEN OR MISPLACED.

 Backpacks

It is important for backpacks to be in the classrooms to help prevent the damaging of Chromebooks. Students have two minutes at the beginning of brunch and lunch to drop their backpacks at their next class. No backpacks will be permitted outside during brunch or lunch. During class, a student’s backpack should remain next his/her desk unless otherwise instructed by the teacher. To reduce disruptions and distractions, students need to get out the required materials at the beginning of the period so that they are not constantly opening and going through their backpack.

 Homework

Homework is a necessary part of a student’s academic requirements. It reinforces skills, builds strong study habits, and responsibility. The duration will vary between teachers and individual students. Homework can be daily review and/or long-term projects. Homework is graded and affects the final grade given each trimester. We have programs here at school for homework support. Please asks for help before it becomes a problem.

Getting involved makes school special and builds memories that last a lifetime. MIT has programs in sports, music, visual and performing arts, clubs, student government and more. Grooming and Hygiene

Students are expected to come to school clean and with clean clothing. Excessive make-up and extreme hairdos are not permitted as they are a distraction to the learning environment.

Dress Code

MIT does not have a uniform policy but does have a dress standard. Clothing must be appropriate for school. If a student wears clothing that is unacceptable or disrupts the purpose of being at school, the student will either find something appropriate to wear or call home to get clothing. Bathroom Policy

McKinley Institute of Technology has developed a bathroom policy with the understanding that students need to have access to the restrooms during class but need to be responsible and use it during recess and lunch because every minute of class time counts.

 McKinley Bathroom policy is:

  3. C) Student will not interrupt the class to use the restroom and instead wait for the teacher to stop teaching before raising their hands and asking.

If a student abuses this priveldges those studetns will be referred to the office.

Reasons for suspension or expulsion

Education code 48900 list the following reasons to suspend students from school in order to insure an appropriate learning environment for all students.
