Nick Fanourgiakis | Principal

Nick Fanourgiakis is an experienced educational leader with a passion for innovation, student-centered learning, and building strong school communities. He returns to McKinley Institute of Technology (MIT) with a deep connection to the school and Redwood City School District (RCSD), having previously served as MIT’s principal from 2015 to 2021.

Throughout his career, Mr. Fanourgiakis has served as a middle school teacher, assistant principal, and principal, leading schools with a focus on academic excellence, meaningful student engagement, and innovative instructional practices. During his previous tenure at MIT, he helped strengthen the school's reputation as a leader in technology, innovation, and project-based learning, earning recognition for both the school and district across San Mateo County.

Following his time at MIT, he served as principal of Kennedy Middle School before pursuing international educational leadership opportunities, broadening his perspective on teaching, learning, and school leadership. His experiences both locally and abroad have reinforced his belief that students thrive when they are challenged, supported, and inspired to think creatively and solve real-world problems.

Mr. Fanourgiakis earned a bachelor's degree in History from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a master's degree in Educational Administration from San Francisco State University. He also holds teaching and administrative credentials.

Known to many students and families as "Mr. F," he is recognized for his thoughtful leadership, strong relationships with students and staff, and commitment to creating engaging learning environments where all students can succeed. As Principal of McKinley Institute of Technology, he is excited to continue building on MIT's tradition of innovation, collaboration, and student success.

Dr. Luis Arreola | Assistant Principal

Dr. Luis Arreola is an experienced educator and school leader with nearly two decades of service in education. He is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and innovative learning environments where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Throughout his career, Dr. Arreola has focused on fostering student belonging, promoting educational equity, and building strong relationships with students, families, and staff. His experience spans both K–12 and higher education settings, including serving as a college professor specializing in Ethnic and Chicano Studies. This work has shaped his commitment to culturally responsive practices and ensuring that all students see their identities, experiences, and strengths reflected in their educational journey.

Dr. Arreola holds a Doctor of Education degree from California State University, East Bay, a Master of Arts in Ethnic Studies from San José State University, and a Master of Education degree with a Multicultural Specialist credential from California State University San Marcos.

As Assistant Principal of McKinley Institute of Technology, Dr. Arreola is dedicated to supporting student achievement, fostering a positive school culture, and helping students develop the skills, confidence, and creativity needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
