Meet Our Principal
Ms. Susana García Fernández
I am so excited to be the principal McKinley Institute of Technology, where students can achieve their dreams and reach out their full potential, while enjoying their Middle School years surrounded by friends and staff that cares deeply for them.
I have been a teacher for more than 20 years both in Spain (where I was born) and the US, as well as an administrator in RCSD for two years, where I served as Assistant Principal at Roosevelt School and fell in love with the district and its community. Before that, I worked as Dual Immersion Program Coordinator in Colorado and as Elementary, MS and HS teacher, teaching all grades in Elementary and Math in MS and HS. I have been able to teach with professionals from many different countries and backgrounds as was well as working with a very diverse population of families and students, which has shaped me as a leader. My personal goal is to ensure equity beyond the school setting, and I am driven by it.
When I have free time, I love to spend time with my two children, my husband, my dog and my two cats. We love to travel and discover hidden places so we spend hours in our car, talking, singing, and laughing together.
I believe on team work and I know that only working together, with all of you, families, students, teachers, staff, and community members, we will be successful.
